I know, I've blogged about faux fur before and it's such a big trend so, I feel like we need to re-discuss. OK, well, more like, I think I have a faux fur obsession and need help!!
Growing up in the NY / NJ area I've always been surrounded with faux fur and leopard prints, they are just always in style. I'm honestly not trying to be funny, I'm just stating a fact. Therefore, when the faux fur and leopard prints would actually come into style, I generally stayed away from them. Maybe a piece here or there, but that's it. This year though, ay caramba! the faux fur and prints are EVERYWHERE! Jackets, shoes, handbags, scarves, vests, leggings etc etc. and I am being hooked right in!! Recently I found myself in Macy's trying on this jacket-

I was ready to buy it and then I thought I looked like (fill in the blank with a character from any NY / NJ reality TV from) from (Fill in the blank with that reality TV show). I put it down and walked away. However, I can't stop thinking about it. If I wear that jacket with a black turtle neck, black pants and stacked heel boots, it would be OK, right?
Then, during another shopping trip, this fur vest had me stop in my tracks.

Sorry for the football pun, but college football season is upon us. Every Saturday you'll find my husband, and daughter, sitting on the couch watching football. Everytime I hear the word "block", color blocking comes to mind, and, well, that leads to some on line shopping for me...
Anyway, yes, color blocking, HUGE trend for fall, but everytime I bring it up to friends I see fear on their face and I hear "I can't pull off color blocking". I'm here to say, you can "tackle" your fear and wear a color blocked outfit. First, and this goes with anything you wear, you always have to feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. If you do, putting together that outfit is easy peasy. So, color blocking means using blocks of colors in an outfit. They don't have to be bright colors, just blocks of color.

It has been a while since I heard the terms "Flux Capacitor", "Great Scott" and "88mph", but of late, I've been hearing it a lot. It is because Nike has released a limited 1,500 pair of their 2011 Nike MAG (aka Nike Air McFly's). Nike has come through and made the shoes that Marty McFly made famous in Back to the Future II, when Marty was brought to the year 2015.

Nike has made an identical replica of the shoe. As in the movie, this shoe lites up (once you press the top of the shoe) for 5 hours until re-charged. Here's the BEST part, Nike will donate proceeds of the shoe to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease. The shoes were available for auction on Ebay and Nike announced that they will match all donations. I love when big companies give back. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's is personally an important charity for me, so thank you Nike for the good will, and 80's memories, even though I was just a tiny lad in 1989...

Clutch bags are fabulous for an evening out. They make the look and enhance any formal / semi-formal outfit. But, I have a tendency to over stuff my clutches making them look out of shape and messy. Therefore, I am so happy that the box clutch is in fashion. It has more structure and most come with a chain strap, in case you don't feel like holding your bag anymore.

Capes are not only for super heros. They are one of this falls hottest trends, and I'm all over them. Have not bought one yet (I'm in denial that summer is over) but I've been eyeing them for a while. A great alternative to a poncho, and will keep you warmer. Can be worn with a pencil skirt to work or formal occasion, for a very ladylike look. Picture "Betty Draper" from Mad Men.

Capes can also be worn with jeans on the weekend while pumpkin picking with the kiddos. Or, in my case, going to the pumpkin patch, then sitting on the side while my husband takes my daughter in the field to choose a pumpkin...

Capes are a great, and an affordable addition to your wardrobe. They can take you from early fall straight into winter. On those colder days, layer a heavy sweater underneath for some extra insulation.
I know, it's been a very long time. Took some time off to enjoy the summer with the family in Jersey and NYC. Now, it's back to business and yes, I'm way behind on fall trends. Some I'm not crazy about, like polka dots, just not a fan. Some I love, like the "black and white trend". Clean, elegant and just plain easy! My most favorite outfit to hit the runways- Celine's basic color block black and white outfit.
