Color Here, Color There, Color Everywhere

Color is super strong for fall. So, those of you who have been shying away from color, it's time to embrace it!! Even this New Yorker has branched out, and my predominately black wardrobe is now infused with chartreuses, magentas and reds.

Take a look at one of my previous posts on how to wear color. While this post is from the summer, the message is the same for fall, use a neutral color as your ground color and then add on the brights. Here's an image from straight from the runway. This Banana Republic outfit is grounded with khakis and then layered with a bright sweater, scarf, top and handbag.

Want something a little more subtle? Take this Eileen Fisher look, grounded with black pants and a touch of color in the scarf.

Then, there is color blocking. Fellas, you can color block too! I love this color blocked sweater from Lacoste (jeans and shirt are Lacoste too).

Shiny!

For all you parents out there, when I say Shiny, I'm not talking about Don, Tiny or Buddy's sister (from Dinosaur Train). I'm talking about one of my most favorite Fall trends!!

As I mentioned earlier, I attended the Front Row Fashion week runway show hosted by Anne Vincent of Vogue Magazine. She outlined 7 trends for fall- Fall for Texture, Color Conundrum, For the Frill of It, 24/7 Utility, Outer Limits, Evening Stars, and Time to Shine. I have to say, this fall has me loving fashion all over again!! I feel like we've been through a dry spell lately and there really hasn't been too much excitement out there, but not anymore... Let's start with today's post about the "Time to Shine" trend.

The cover of the November issue of Lucky Magazine has Kim Kardashian in a fabulous shimmery skirt.

On the runway, there were 2 looks that I loved from Ann Taylor and Vince stores. While a bit high priced they are still not quite couture prices.

There are definitely lots of options out there, including ones that won't break the bank. Check out this look from Banana Republic. A sequin skirt matched with a crisp white button down shirt, that you most likely already have in your closet. Total cost of this outfit $170.

It's all in the accessories

I had a fabulous time this weekend attending Bellevue's Fashion Week. Saturday night was Vogue's fall trend runway show. I will definitely blog about what I saw, but, todays post is about what happened before I hit the runway. I learned my outfit was a disaster... Friday night I decided to try on what I would wear- a trendy moto jacket, metallic top, dark rinse bootcut jeans and platform patent slingbacks. Cute, right? I looked in the mirror and all I thought was "This looks blah". Can't be, I must be tired. I ran downstairs to show my husband "knowing" he'd say- "Wow! You look great!". Instead I got a look of confusion and silence, I'm sure he was trying to formulate a nice way to say "what are you wearing?". I spared him the agony and ran back upstairs muttering "the show is tomorrow, what do I do??".

Here's what I did, I accessorized! It's an easy, and cheap, way of turning any outfit around. Whenever I see a cute accessory, on sale, I usually pick it up and keep it for a time when I need it. Well, now was one of those times! To my outfit I added hoop earrings, a long gold chain, mix and match bracelets and my DKNY rose gold watch (check out my earlier post about watches). And, viola! I had a trendy 70's look and I was off to the show!!
